Organization & Memberships

2018-19

Wasatch Academy Basketball is comprised of two team programs: Varsity/JV and D-League. Unlike other high schools in Utah, each program falls under a unique governing body structure to promote the best competitive environment for their respective level of sport.

UTAH HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (UHSAA)

The UHSAA reaches 150 member schools and nearly 100,000 participants in high school activity programs. The organization sanctions basketball in six different classifications. The UHSAA is governed by a 15 member Board of Trustees made up of elected school board members, superintendents and principals representing school districts and areas throughout Utah, a charter school representative, a private school representative and a state board of education representative.

  • Varsity (Independent Member) — As the premier team organization, the Wasatch Academy varsity boys team is an Independent Member of UHSAA in Region 17 with an open classification that allows (1) play of any UHSAA member school; (2) play in NFHS sanctioned tournaments around the country as well as schools recognized by their state's activities associations; and (3) recognition as a Freelance/Independent team by MaxPreps.

  • JV (Independent Member) — Wasatch Academy JV Basketball is also an Independent Member of UHSAA. The emphasis of the Junior Varsity program is on the development of Freshman & Sophomores and the promotion of citizenship, teamwork, and social development that comes with participating in organized high school competition, preparing athletes for Varsity play.

UTAH SCHOOL SPORTS ASSOCIATION (USSA)

The USSA is comprised of an eclectic mix of charter, alternative, and independent schools. Through membership in the USSA, schools provide their students with a legitimate high school athletic experience. This valuable experience is critical for the development of teamwork & self discipline concepts as well as the time management, social, and leadership skills that will empower student-athletes for future success.

  • D-League (DL Team Orange & DL Team Black) — Known as Wasatch Academy’s D-League, this team organization serves as a developmental program for any students who have the ability to play at a competitive level, but without the time commitment required for Varsity or JV basketball.

AMATEUR ATHLETIC UNION (AAU)

One of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, multi-sport event organizations in the world, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. The AAU is a member of the International School Sport Federation (ISF), recognized by the International Olympic Committee, to promote the values and interests of education through sport.

  • All Student-Athletes — During the offseason all our student-athletes are encouraged to play in the AAU.
