A tradition of excellence.
Established in 1912, Wasatch Academy Basketball is one of the oldest high school basketball programs in the nation with an illuminating history throughout the bygone days of Utah high school athletics.
Basketball at Wasatch Academy changed in 2009 after the school brought on Geno Morgan, an assistant coach at Emory University in Atlanta. In six seasons as head coach, Geno Morgan took the Tigers to extreme heights. The Tigers won three state championships, including back-to-back Class 2A titles before going independent in 2014-15.
One year into its adventure as an independent, the school and community was stunned when Morgan passed away of a heart attack in his sleep.
It was a major loss. Morgan had quickly created a basketball dynasty, won three state titles, coached the Tigers to a 128-20 record, been recognized as Utah’s top high school coach six straight years by the Best of State organization and guided his guys to wins over Top 50 prep teams with a very bright future ahead.
After the sudden death of Coach Geno Morgan, Wasatch Academy needed to find someone who could step up to the plate. Wasatch Academy hired Curtis Condie, the lead assistant at Utah Valley University and a former assistant at Snow College and head coach at Division II Texas A&M International. In three seasons, he led the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in ESPN's national high school tournament (formerly Dick’s Nationals, now GEICO) and a 70-11 record, and was recognized as Utah’s top high school coach by the Best of State organization.
In 2018, Coach David Evans continued the Wasatch Academy Basketball legacy.
Coming from one of the nation’s winningest, most consistent teams in the last decade, head coach David Evans recently led national powerhouse Lone Peak Basketball (Highland, Utah) to first in the region and won the 6A UHSAA State Title before earning a No. 8 seed in the 2018 GEICO National High School Invitational (NHSI).
Now as head coach at Wasatch Academy, Coach Evans has restructured the entire coaching staff with new additions that rival many Division 1 NCAA teams and is developing our student-athletes— both on and off the court— representing of Wasatch Academy’s highest standards.
Today, we have been recognized by NIKE, Inc. as a top-tier program in the United States in addition to a consensus Top 10 national ranking out of more than 40,000 high school programs.
From the results, tradition, quality of coaching staff and strength of this year’s schedule to the student-athletes being pursued by the best university basketball institutions in the world, there is simply no other program like it. Period.
Welcome to Tiger Nation.
